08:30 pm - Pattern You will need:
1 skein Berrocco Comfort DK, or similar US size 6 dpn's 16" US size 6 circular needle (optional) Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
CO 4 stitches, and divide between four dpn's. Join for circular knitting.
Row 1: (k1, yo) repeat to end of row (8 stitches on the needles) Place stitch marker to indicate beginning/end of row. Row 2 and all subsequent even rows: knit Row 3: (k1, yo) repeat to end of row (16 stitches) Row 5: (k2, yo) repeat to end of row (24 stitches) Row 7: (k3, yo) repeat to end of row (32 stitches) Row 9: (k4, yo) repeat to end of row (40 stitches)
Continue in this manner until you have 184 stitches in your needles. (In the most recent increase row, you will have repeated (k22, yo) around the row. End with an even-numbered row. Note that 80 or 88 stitches on the needle is a good place to switch to the circular needle.
Repeat the following two rows for a total of 18 rows, or about 2 inches: Row 1: (k20, yo, k1, k2tog) repeat to end of row * Row 2: knit
Row 19: (k2, k2tog) repeat to end of row (138 stitches) Row 20: decrease evenly by three stitches (k2tog three seperate times, evenly spaced around the row) (135 stitches) **
On the next row, (k2, p1) and repeat to end of row. Continue ribbing for a total of 8 rows, or about one inch. Bind off and weave in ends.
IMPORTANT PATTERN NOTES: * This repeat will change the place where your row ends. You may choose to think of this as (k1, ktog, k20, yo), if you prefer to keep the yo at the end of the repeat. ** This creates a loose band, which minimizes hat head and keeps you from getting that indentation that tight hat bands leave across your forehead. If you prefer a more snug fit, add more k2tog's in that last row before you begin the ribbing. Space your decreases evenly, and be certain to end with a multiple of 3 stitches on the needles.
